TEL AVIV - Two Qassam rockets were shot from the Gaza Strip - the Palestinian enclave controlled by the radical Islamic movement Hamas since 2007 and subjected to an Israeli blockade since then - have fallen over the past few hours onto Israeli territory near Sderot, but did not harm anyone, confirmed a military spokesman. The first rocket, which was launched yesterday evening, hit the territory of a kibbutz near the town and gave rise to a few cases of shock among those living there, while the second instead landed on an open field just outside of Sderot. The two launches marks a fresh outbreak of attacks following a period seeing reduced frequency. Over the past few days Hamas has once again been using harsh tones: taking part in the Palestinian 'day of rage' - promoted two days ago as a response to the reconstruction of a synagogue in Jerusalem's Old City and the expansion projects for Israeli settlements, which erupted into violent scuffles both in Jerusalem and in the West Bank - as well as repeatedly calling for a "third intifada". Today in Gaza the new EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton is expected, granted special authorisation from Israel to cross the border with the Gaza Strip for a visit whose declared purpose is of a humanitarian nature. Next week the same may be done by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. (ANSAmed).
